Volvo Bil's sustainability work

At Volvo Bil, we work continuously to reduce our impact on the environment.

At Volvo Bil, we work in all areas to reduce our impact on the environment.
For example, we update our car washes with biological treatment, install almost 200 charging stations and recycle worn tyres.

Green electricity

Volvo Bil has an agreement with Vattenfall and only buys green electricity that is fossil-free and produced from hydropower, solar and wind power.

An important part of Volvo Bil's environmental work is to reduce its own energy consumption. Continued focus is on heating, gates, LEDs and hot water consumption.
In the paint workshop, we have introduced a new clear coat that cures at a lower temperature, which means that we have reduced the need for oil-heated paint boxes.

The journey towards electrification is fast and this includes securing the charging infrastructure. From the first charging stations at Volvo Bil in the autumn of 2020, we will in 2021 be up to about 200 charging stations.

Car washes

Every year, approximately 15 million car washes take place directly on the street or in the garage driveway. This means that oil, toxic heavy metals and asphalt residues flow straight into our watercourses, lakes and seas.

In connection with new car wash plants, we have upgraded with biochemical treatment at our plants in Tuve and Lundby. This means that we pass the limit value for Swedish water with 50% of the permitted limit values.
Most of our car washes also use approved chemicals that are "Svanen-märkta".

Volvo Bil's steps in the important sustainability work

Quality and environmental work is an ongoing process within Volvo Bil to achieve the company's environmental goals in 2021.
Read more about some of the sustainability activities we do.

  • Volvo Bil repairs approximately 4,500 repairs per year of bumps on the car's sheet metal surfaces, so-called "spot repairs", which means that the car does not need painting.
This leads us to reduce our emissions of solvents by 300 kg per year.
  • We list all chemicals used in the business and the chemicals are assessed and approved by Volvo Cars and registered in the Chemsoft system.
Every 5 years, all chemicals are revalued.
  • We only use Volvo Cars logistics and transports that only use Euro 6 classified vehicles.
Through the collaboration that leads to fewer transports and we reduce CO2 emissions.
  • We refuel our diesel cars with Neste MY, which is 100% renewable diesel.
  • At our facilities, we have internal Recharge cars for our co-workers to use for transfers in the service.
  • Volvo Bil's rental car fleet's Recharge models are adapted to the set Environmental Goals 2021.
  • Volvo Bil's damage technician in Tuve always contacts JB Bildemontering to see if there are used spare parts that have already been manufactured, which we can reuse when repairing a car that is not covered by the car damage guarantee.
  • We repair and reuse about 2000 rims per year.

Collaborations for sustainable solutions

Volvo Bil collaborates with Stena Recycling to find sustainable waste solutions with a higher recycling rate. Iron, aluminum, plastic, paper and everything that Volvo Bil sorts is picked up by Stena Recycling, which recycles this material for reuse. This saves both resources and energy. Volvo Bil's recycling corresponds to CO2 emissions of 763 tons. Stena Metall collects source-sorted material from Volvo Bil at 17 different units (sorting stations).

In collaboration with Ragn-Sells, about 10,000 of our used car tires are recycled every year. The tires are reused, among other things, for retreading and explosive mats, and are cut down and used as a base in riding stables, artificial turf and become new roads.
